RUCKUS WIRELESS UNVEILS EXPERIENCE MANAGEMENT CAPABILITIES WITH NEW SMARTZONE OS RELEASE

Software enhances security and policy management, increases multi-tenant and data plane flexibility

SAN JOSE, Calif.—April 11, 2017—RUCKUS WIRELESS, a part of BROCADE, today announced the availability of version 3.5 of its SmartZone Operating System (OS). The new release powers the industry’s highest-capacity controller portfolio, including the SmartZone 300 (SZ300) high-scale control and management appliance, which is also being announced today. With more than 30 new features and enhancements, SmartZone OS 3.5 makes it easier than ever for IT to improve the end-user experience and to better align security and policy posture with a diverse user device constituency. New capabilities also enable enterprises and managed service providers to easily and securely implement complex network architectures and multi-tier business models.

The SmartZone portfolio includes high-capacity appliances designed for service provider and large enterprise deployments—SZ300 and virtual SmartZone High-Scale (vSZ-H)—and enterprise-class appliances—SmartZone 100 (SZ100) and virtual SmartZone Essentials (vSZ-E)—designed for mid-sized enterprise networks. The virtual SmartZone Data Plane (vSZ-D) works in conjunction with virtual control and management appliances, enabling a high-throughput distributed data plane. Since their introduction in 2015, SmartZone controllers have been deployed by more than 2,000 enterprise and service provider organizations that are collectively managing more than 600,000 APs.

“Cloud-managed wireless services revenue is growing at 26 percent, far faster than the enterprise WLAN equipment market,” said Rohit Mehra, vice president, network infrastructure, IDC. “WLAN vendors that can build products that enable those service providers to grow their own businesses profitably stand to outperform the market. With its SmartZone portfolio and its latest enhancements, Ruckus is clearly vying to be a dominant vendor in this segment. At the same time, the company is investing in universally critical functionality related to end-user experience management, security and analytics.”

Enhancing End-user Experience Management
As end-user quality-of-service expectations increase, IT departments are increasingly challenged to meet them. SmartZone OS 3.5 provides IT with tools to better ensure quality experience:

Visual Connection Diagnostics (VCD) enables IT to react in real time to end-user problems, visually troubleshooting the client connection process, pinpointing the failure stage and identifying the likely cause of failure.

New “super-KPIs,” combined with visual alerts and pivot-table functionality, provide IT with a more effective means of predicting end-user experience degradation, reducing the time IT must spend on identifying systemic failures.

Near real-time push-streaming enables IT to effectively respond to rapidly deteriorating network conditions by allowing third-party or custom-built analytics tools to consume key performance indicators (KPIs) with no delay, no fidelity loss and no need for IT to create a firewall pinhole.

Creating More Flexible Security and Policy Management
Ensuring that the network, devices and users are protected without compromising expected service and access levels is critically important. The new release helps IT address these challenges more easily:

SmartZone integration with Ruckus Cloudpath security and policy management software allows IT to create a practically unlimited number of user and device roles, enabling user-specific VLAN, access control and bandwidth attributes. This capability enables IT to segment the network based on real security and policy needs, rather than on a one-size-fits-all basis.

Usability improvements to Ruckus Dynamic Pre-Shared Key (DPSK) technology include a group DPSK function and, with Cloudpath integration, automatic key distribution to end users. Group DPSK is designed to make it easier for organizations with “headless” Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as printers and Apple TVs to manually distribute keys to these devices by enabling groups of device types to use a common DPSK key.

Enabling More Sophisticated Business and Deployment Models
The latest SmartZone release further enhances multi-tenant and data plane functionality and flexibility for service providers that host private clouds and for large enterprises and educational institutions:

Multi-tenant partner domain segmentation allows service providers that operate private clouds to establish secure, isolated operating domains for their non-hosting managed service provider clients. This new capability, combined with existing domain and zone functionality, enables the private-cloud service provider to support any single-tier or dual-tier managed services business model, while meeting stringent operational and security requirements.

The zone affinity feature in the vSZ-D provides a common data plane to distributed sites, allowing customers to maintain a centralized data architecture in the event of a WLAN vendor change. Managed service providers can use the same capability to allow their customers to tunnel guest traffic away from their local area network (LAN).

Native DHCP/NAT functionality in the vSZ-D simplifies deployment complexity by enabling high-performance DHCP assignment in a centralized or distributed network context without the need for third-party DHCP/NAT servers.

The vSZ-D enables Layer 3 roaming without the need for a dedicated mobility controller. Parameters are defined just once in a centrally located vSZ-H/E instance. Distributed vSZ-D instances automatically establish tunnels between themselves. Roaming devices maintain their original IP address, ensuring session persistence for sensitive applications such as voice.

“With Ruckus’ latest version of its SmartZone control and management software, browsing across the user interface is straightforward and simple, with the ability to access configuration and monitoring on a single page,” said Yves Premel-Cabic, head of engineering, WiFirst. “Ruckus now goes far beyond its competitors, with call-flow diagnostics for client association issues and crystal clear technical data. By combining it with the Ruckus SmartCell Insight platform, we will now be able to enjoy state-of-the-art analytics. vSZ 3.5 is now the best carrier-grade Wi-Fi management solution, and WiFirst’s engineers and technicians can’t wait to upgrade to this major release.”

“SmartZone allows service providers and large organizations to easily deploy high-scale, multi-site, multi-region WLANs while practically eliminating the usual costs associated with data plane scaling,” said Greg Beach, vice president of product management at Ruckus Wireless. “With this latest release, we’ve made SmartZone even more compelling for service providers of all kinds, while giving IT in every organization easy-to-use tools that allow them to more effectively manage the entire end-user experience from service quality to security and policy.”

Device Fingerprinting Enables Certificate-based IoT Device Security

SAN FRANCISCO—RSA Conference 2017, Booth N4410—Feb. 15, 2017—RUCKUS WIRELESS, a part of Brocade, today announced version 5.1 of its Cloudpath ES security and policy management software. The latest software release enables organizations to automatically and securely connect Internet of Things (IoT) devices using certificates—the gold standard of device security—allowing IT to establish policies governing the behavior of those devices. In conjunction with the Cloudpath software certificate authority (CA) and supported standards-based protocols, the new capabilities allow organizations and IoT device manufacturers to easily and automatically secure a wide range of connected IoT devices without changing existing security infrastructure.

Gartner REPORTS[1] that IoT endpoints will reach an installed base of 20.4 billion units by 2020. In addition, AT&T’s Cybersecurity Insights Report[2], which surveyed more than 5,000 enterprises around the world, FOUND that 85 percent of enterprises are in the process of or intend to deploy IoT devices. Yet, according to the report, a mere 10 percent of those surveyed feel confident that they could secure those devices against hackers.

“The use of IoT-connected devices is now poised to grow exponentially, with IoT technology investments expected to reach $1.29 trillion by the year 2020 across multiple vertical segments and industries,” said Rohit Mehra, vice president, network infrastructure, IDC. “As with other aspects of IT infrastructure and applications, security risks and vulnerabilities associated with IoT are now a key area of focus for enterprise IT and LoB managers on an ongoing basis. These enterprises, along with their technology solution providers, need to find reliable, cost-effective ways to better secure their connected IoT applications and infrastructure, a challenge that Ruckus seeks to address with these new capabilities.”

Cloudpath ES 5.1 software introduces device fingerprinting, a technique that allows IT to automatically identify IoT device types by comparing the device profile to a device fingerprint database. Together with other Cloudpath software features, the new release delivers the following benefits:

IT can automatically secure, using certificates, fingerprint-identified IoT devices. If the device is unable to use a certificate, a Ruckus Dynamic Pre-Shared Key can be used to secure it. Both approaches enable IT to establish IoT device-specific policies. For example, IoT devices may be authorized to connect only to the cloud service with which they’re associated.

IT can continue to use existing RADIUS and CAs to secure non-IoT devices. By using Cloudpath software and its dedicated CA to secure IoT devices, organizations avoid reconfiguring their current AAA and CA security implementation or, worse, creating custom middleware to secure devices using an existing CA.

Manufacturers can improve the security readiness of their IoT devices. They can leverage standards-based certificate retrieval protocols such as SCEP and EST, which are native to the Cloudpath CA.

Managed service providers (MSPs) can add new tenants at will. MSPs can utilize the multitenant capabilities in the Cloudpath virtual deployment implementation, thereby reducing deployment costs and management overhead compared to deploying a separate instance of security and policy management software for each end customer.

“Traditionally, configuring IoT devices has been a huge headache for IT. These devices not only expose organizations to new security threats, but often require manual onboarding, assuming they can be onboarded at all,” said Kevin Koster, chief Cloudpath architect, Ruckus Wireless Business Unit, Brocade. “Cloudpath helps IT departments ensure their IoT devices don’t put their network and their users at risk, while enabling IoT device manufacturers to meet their own customers’ need for IoT device security.”

The latest release of Cloudpath ES software will be generally available in the second quarter of 2017. For more information, please visit the Ruckus Wireless WEBSITE.

TOKYO, JAPAN–(Marketwired – Jan 24, 2017) – Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced that digital imaging giant Ricoh Company, Ltd. (TYO: 7752) has migrated to an Ethernet fabric network within its Yokohama data center. The deployment of switches supporting BROCADE® VCS® FABRIC TECHNOLOGY enables Ricoh to greatly reduce network operating costs and complexity within its data center while providing the company with a far more agile infrastructure upon which to respond to changing business needs.

Since the Yokohama data center was established in 2010, system expansion — driven by Ricoh’s increasing use of information technology to deliver business value as well as to ensure business continuity internally — had been making the network infrastructure and operations more complex. In particular, the increased use of virtualization within the data center was putting pressure on both available network bandwidth and administration resources.

“Network complexity was becoming a significant constraint on our ability to respond quickly to new business requirements,” said Toshiyuki Miyakoshi, senior specialist, Information Infrastructure Control Department, Business Process Transformation, Corporate Division, Ricoh Company, Ltd. “Brocade’s Ethernet fabric solution enables us to manage the entire data center network, spanning multiple floors, as if it were a single core switch that is self-configuring. This greatly reduces our operational overhead and makes it very easy for us to scale network capacity to meet future demand.”

The BROCADE VDX® 6940 SWITCHES deployed by Ricoh provide a solid foundation for data center transformation, delivering the performance, flexibility, scale, and efficiency essential to operating a highly virtualized data center. The scale-out architecture enables “pay-as-you grow” expansion aligned to business demand, with a highly resilient network fabric designed to eliminate downtime.

“Ricoh is already benefiting from the fundamental value of Brocade VCS fabrics, which is to deliver networking that simply works — not networking that needs frequent attention,” said Matt Kolon, chief technology officer for Asia Pacific and Japan, Brocade. “Over time, Ricoh’s return on investment in Brocade VDX switches will increase as its cloud data center journey starts to incorporate software-defined networking features.”

In parallel with the deployment of Brocade VDX switches, Ricoh has also upgraded the Yokohama data center’s wide-area connectivity — initially to 10 Gbps — to provide better end-user access to applications hosted in its private cloud. Committed to further automating the network equipment configuration setting, Ricoh has turned to Brocade’s technical expertise to address future system expansions as well as customer demands for faster services.

About Ricoh Company Ltd
Ricoh Co., Ltd. is a global company that provides document management systems, IT services, production print solutions, visual communication systems, digital cameras, industrial products and services in about 200 countries and regions around the world (the Ricoh Group Consolidated sales in its Fiscal 2016 are 2,209 billion yen).
Finland’s Fastest Growing Data Center Company Delivers Scalable Wholesale Colocation Services

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Jan. 23, 2017—Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced that Ficolo, one of the fastest-growing companies in Finland, is delivering reliable and agile New IP networks to support their customers demanding infrastructure requirements. Leveraging Brocade data center networking solutions and Brocade Network Subscription, Ficolo has accelerated time-to-market for new wholesale colocation services while removing financial obstacles to growth.

Housed in Cold War-era underground military facility, Ficolo is Finland’s first data center company with a focus on colocation services. The environmentally-conscious company is cased deep in a bedrock tunnel and utilizes 100 percent wind power in the data center. As a cloud provider for other service providers, Ficolo’s customers choose the data center capabilities they need to support their own service offerings. Ficolo is also a trusted partner for SaaS companies who deliver their software to customers. Ficolo handles cloud connectivity, availability, storage, compute and security.

In its pursuit of growth and market share, Ficolo needed to build a wholesale cloud service portfolio in a stable environment. The company required a network infrastructure that can support the various services they offer to customers. At the same time, they were looking for a low-risk option to finance the new infrastructure so they could offer a more flexible and aggressive price than their competitors.

Ficolo built its core network using Brocade VDX® switches with Brocade VCS® fabric technology. Brocade VDX switches also support multiple individual customer environments, which connect to the core network. Brocade ICX® switches are deployed in several locations throughout the network and as customer premises equipment. With Brocade’s technology, Ficolo can deliver 10/40 Gbps capacity with the ability to finely segment resources per customer or share services on demand. In addition, Ficolo solved its financing concerns with Brocade Network Subscription as they were able scale the network up or down, based on their customers’ needs.

“Our Brocade-powered network provides the building blocks for our customers’ own cloud offering,” said Seppo Ihalainen, chief executive officer of Ficolo. “We can launch new customer deployments quickly, test new colocation services or take a new direction with very little risk. We are able to grow at a rapid pace while helping our customers accelerate their time-to-market by implementing a new network or service in about 30 percent less time using Brocade technology.”

About Brocade
Brocade® (NASDAQ: BRCD) networking solutions help the world’s leading organizations turn their networks into platforms for business innovation. With solutions spanning public and private data centers to the network edge, Brocade is leading the industry in its transition to the New IP network infrastructures required for today’s era of digital business.
Mobile Giant to Break New Ground in China Service Provider Landscape with Leading-Edge SDN/NFV Deployment

BEIJING, CHINA–(Marketwired – Jan 18, 2017) – Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced that China Mobile Ltd (SEHK: 0941) (NYSE: CHL), the world’s largest mobile communications service provider, has selected an advanced network functions virtualization (NFV) solution from Brocade to support its most strategic corporate development initiative. Deployment of the BROCADE® VIRTUAL TRAFFIC MANAGER (vTM) within key China Mobile data centers will help the company deliver highly available and agile cloud services, while keeping operating costs under control.

As one of the country’s major service providers, China Mobile is playing a leading role in the Chinese Government’s Internet Plus initiative to increase competitiveness and support the development of new business models within conventional industries through information technologies, such as fixed and mobile Internet connectivity, cloud computing, Big Data, and the Internet of Things. In addition to providing IP connectivity services, China Mobile has also taken on the role of a large-scale cloud service provider capable of meeting the needs of major enterprise and government customers.

Brocade vTM will initially be deployed at China Mobile’s Southern Base and Northern Base data centers in conjunction with Nokia which, through its acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent, became China Mobile’s strategic supplier of software-defined networking (SDN) and NFV infrastructure. Brocade vTM software will run within the NUAGE NETWORKS VIRTUALIZED SERVICES PLATFORM, a commercially supported version of the standard-based OpenStack SDN orchestration environment.

“The promise of network functions virtualization is the ability to scale services on demand. When it comes to service providers, they don’t come much bigger than China Mobile in terms of potential scale,” said Henry Zhu, country manager of Brocade China. “We’re naturally delighted that Brocade’s advanced NFV appliance technology has been selected by China Mobile. This is a groundbreaking project within China’s service provider landscape and we are fully committed to ensuring it results in complete success.”

As an NFV software appliance, Brocade vTM runs on the same industry-standard hardware and virtualization environment employed throughout China Mobile’s cloud data centers. During testing, the project team was able to spin up a Brocade vTM instance of 200 Mbps on a single virtual machine host. With the orchestration upgrade for China Mobile’s Cloud data center, Brocade vTM can achieve elastic capacity from 1 to 1000 Mbps on a single virtual machine host. The testing also revealed that getting the equivalent load balancing performance on a hardware-based application delivery controller would be 50 percent more expensive than the Brocade vTM solution.

SHANGHAI, CHINA–(Marketwired – Nov 22, 2016) – Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced that QUANTA COMPUTER (TWSE: 2382), the world’s largest manufacturer of notebook computers, has deployed Brocade-powered New IP networks at factories within its key manufacturing site. The deployment of Brocade IP networking solutions at both the company’s network edge and its data center, dramatically simplifies operations at the Quanta Shanghai Manufacturing City (QSMC) plants and paves the way for the company to employ Software-Defined Networking (SDN) as it diversifies into producing a broader range of digital products.

Quanta Computer has grown to become a $31.5 billion (US) business by delivering manufacturing excellence to major brands including Apple, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, and Sony. Quanta’s decision to adopt Brocade’s advanced switching and SDN solutions within its QSMC plants reflects its ongoing commitment to always providing the best-in-class ODM manufacturing facilities to its global partner brands.

“Competition in the notebook market is relentless and so is the demand to improve manufacturing quality and efficiency,” said Dave Chen, Associate Vice President of Quanta Computer. “Our factories are highly automated and that makes them highly network-dependent with a network edge of more than 10,000 ports now deployed at Quanta Shanghai Manufacturing City, which is a big network administration challenge. We’ve deployed Brocade networking solutions at Quanta Shanghai Manufacturing City because they provide a radically simplified administration model, which reduces costs and improves network availability, and sets us up for further improvements and increased production line flexibility by leveraging SDN.”

Quanta’s first major Brocade switch deployment was at QSMC Factory. The Brocade ICX 7450, ICX 6450, and ICX 6430 switches used within the plant support BROCADE HYPEREDGE® ARCHITECTURE, which enables consolidated management, shared network services, and scale-out networking to simplify network design, streamline application deployment, reduce management complexity, and save operational costs. Based on the operational benefits achieved at QSMC, Quanta has since deployed Brocade ICX switches as its next-generation network edge at additional QSMC plants.

“Leading-edge manufacturers are increasingly looking to implement Industry 4.0 strategies with smart factories that support strong customization of products under the conditions of highly flexible mass production,” said Henry Zhu, country manager for China, Brocade. “Quanta Computer’s deployment of Brocade SDN-ready network infrastructure on the factory floor, within its manufacturing core network and data center. opens the way for the development of software-defined production lines that are capable of virtual retooling on the fly to dramatically increase flexibility.”

With BROCADE MLXE CORE ROUTERS deployed within the heart of the QSMC campus network and BROCADE VDX® 6740 DATA CENTER SWITCHES in place, Quanta can now support end-to-end SDN. It has also recently deployed the BROCADE SDN CONTROLLER and BROCADE FLOW OPTIMIZER as a foundation for SDN application development, leveraging the OpenFlow support in true hybrid port mode, enabling a smooth transition to SDN without disrupting existing network operations.

BANGALORE, INDIA–(Marketwired – Nov 8, 2016) – Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced that FUJITSU CONSULTING INDIA has successfully deployed an end-to-end, software-defined networking (SDN) infrastructure to support operations at its new 2,000-seat Global Delivery Center (GDC) in Pune and Bangalore. This agile and programmable network has enabled the IT consulting and integration services provider to run a highly dynamic, 24×7 GDC environment designed to meet the most stringent requirements from Fujitsu Consulting’s international client base.

Fujitsu Consulting India selected the Brocade® networking solution based on its superior scalability, robustness, small environmental footprint, manageability, low total cost of ownership, and support for open standards. In particular, the company felt that open standards were critical to fully realizing the benefits of SDN, opening the door for Brocade’s successful proposal, which was supported by a strong proof-of-concept.

“Being successful in outsourced development requires more than just great design and programming talent. It also needs a high-performance IT infrastructure capable of keeping development teams productive 24×7, with the flexibility to emulate clients’ environments, which are of an increasingly hybrid-cloud nature,” said Mr. Mohammed Shahed Khan, Group Head IT & CISO, Fujitsu Consulting. “In putting together the specifications for our new Bangalore GDC and upgrade of the Pune GDC, it was clear that we would need to go beyond traditional networking to deliver the capabilities we see as essential to a successful future. Brocade came to the table with a very compelling solution with strong support for open standards-based SDN, and our operational experience post-deployment has been excellent.”

BROCADE ICX® 7750 SWITCHES form the campus network core at the new Fujitsu GDC, offering 96 wire-speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports per switch and the capability to integrate up to a dozen switches into a high-performance stack. The stack can be managed as a single device delivering up to 5.76 Tbps of aggregated stacking bandwidth. This high level of performance, scalability, and port density has allowed Fujitsu to dedicate eight 10 GbE links to each of the BROCADE ICX 7250 STACKABLE SWITCHES, which provide wire-speed 1 GbE network access, with power-over-Ethernet to support IP phones, Wi-Fi access points, and other devices. By adding switches to the Brocade ICX 7750 stack, Fujitsu will be able to easily accommodate a 1,000-seat expansion to the GDC during the coming year.

In addition to the campus network infrastructure, Fujitsu has also deployed BROCADE VDX® 6740 SWITCHES in the GDC data center. The switches form a high-performance, low-latency 10 GbE fabric that is both self-forming and self-healing, and offers ideal performance characteristics for virtualized data center operations. All the Brocade switches at the Fujitsu GDC fully support the OpenFlow SDN protocol, enabling the IT staff to programmatically reconfigure both physical and virtual networks on-the-fly to meet the diverse IT requirements of simultaneous client development projects.

“Working in partnership with Fujitsu Consulting India to help them realize the full benefits of SDN has been a remarkable experience for Brocade in India’s offshore service provider market,” said Edgar Dias, senior regional director for Brocade India. “It also reflects the fact that, in today’s digital business era, legacy network architecture and technology are no longer anywhere near capable of meeting the needs of developers and business operations. Fujitsu Consulting’s new GDC represents the future, with a strong buy-in to what the New IP can deliver.”

ANAHEIM, Calif., EDUCAUSE 2016, Booth #662—Oct. 26, 2016—Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced the availability of Ruckus Cloudpath ES 5.0 software. The new release builds on previous BYOD onboarding capabilities to create a complete integrated security and policy management platform. Cloudpath ES 5.0 software enables IT organizations of any size to easily establish secure, policy-based access for wired and wireless devices.

According to IDC,[1] the U.S. mobile worker population will grow at a steady rate over the next five years, increasing from 96.2 million in 2015 to 105.4 million mobile workers in 2020.

“The rise of a more mobile workforce has mandated that corporations to adopt robust BYOD programs, which ensure productivity both in and out of the workplace,” said Nolan Greene, senior research analyst, IDC. “However, many organizations, especially those with lean IT departments, still struggle with securing device connections to the network. Organizations are therefore tasked with finding a solution that not only enables the mobile workforce, but also provides enterprise-level security, something Ruckus Wireless seeks to deliver to its customers.”

Many organizations expect frictionless BYOD and a common wireless-wired policy and security experience but IT is often unable to deliver on those expectations due to the inherent complexity of modern security infrastructure. Cloudpath software simplifies the deployment of enterprise-grade security, making powerful security much more accessible to lean IT teams.

“Before Cloudpath, we struggled with authentication, provisioning, securing and connecting both our students’ and teachers’ wireless devices across our 11 sites in both California and Washington,” said Bryant Wong, chief technology officer, Summit Public Schools. “After the deployment of Cloudpath, it was seamless. It just works.”

Features and benefits of Cloudpath ES 5.0 software include:

Strong security and centralized policy management. Cloudpath software provides a simplified Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) while using industry-standard x.509 digital certificates and granular policy assignment.

A faster, better end-user experience. It takes users as little as 10 seconds to onboard each of their devices. Users don’t need to remember passwords, and no re-login is necessary when they move from network to network.

Lower IT operating expense and product licensing cost. Unique user-based licensing enables better network planning and keeps costs under control as the number of devices per person increases.

Integration with existing infrastructure. Cloudpath software works with existing wired and wireless access networks, network security firewalls, client operating systems and other common methods of ensuring security compliance.

Tight integration with Brocade® ICX® switches. Cloudpath software can now be configured to push policies dynamically with RADIUS Change of Authorization (CoA) and also perform Web authentication for wired clients.

“Managing devices, workflow and security policies has become more complex over the last decade for businesses of all sizes,” said Kevin Koster, chief architect and Cloudpath founder, Ruckus Wireless Business Unit, Brocade. “At the same time, many companies operate in various locations with multiple wireless networks. This creates complex IT management challenges. Cloudpath software addresses these pain points by delivering better security than most of our customers have now, and at a very low price. Cloudpath also works with existing infrastructure, eliminating the need to purchase and train on new, expensive and complex dedicated security appliances.”
